Clive Brown

Clive was born and grew up in Maldon, Essex. He moved to South Africa with his family for schooling and graduated as a Graphic Designer from the Johannesburg School of Art and Design. After working as a designer in Cape Town and then London he moved back to his home town of Maldon to work in a local design firm. The weekends would be taken up with racing sailing boats and oyster smacks on and around the Blackwater Estuary.

A career change found him working in the yachting industry as a yacht captain for the next 24 years. During this time his sketch book occasionally surfaced but otherwise any fine art found itself relatively obscured in the background.

After leaving the yachting industry he set up a business with his wife to design and build outdoor furniture in the north eastern state of Maine in the USA where they lived for a number of years.

Having now moved back to Cape Town, Clive is finding more time to explore his talents with the brush. He finds inspiration for his work from the wonderful Western Cape scenery as well as the many places he has lived and sailed.
